Reminder: Applications to join STFC Council close 13 November

The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) is seeking applications for three non-executive members of the Council of the STFC.

Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons:

  1. From business/commercial backgrounds with scientific experience relevant to the STFC programme and leadership experience in industry, and

  2. From senior managers with strong financial management experience

The Secretary of State sets broad guidelines within which Council members are expected to work. The governing body has corporate responsibility for all the Council’s actions and those of the organisation’s staff. It decides on all issues of major importance, including issues of corporate strategy, key strategic objectives and targets, major decisions involving the use of financial and other resources and personnel issues, including key appointments. It is accountable to the Government and Parliament for the activities of the Research Council, its stewardship of public funds and the extent to which key performance targets and objectives have been met. Day-to-day responsibilities are delegated to the Chief Executive who is its Accounting Officer.

Members must at all times observe the highest standards of probity, impartiality, integrity and objectivity in relation to the stewardship of public funds and management of the organisation; and ensure that high standards of corporate governance are observed at all times. Candidates are expected to observe the Seven Principles of Public Life.
