What is happening on the 10th September?

The start-up!

This date will see the first attempts to place particles called protons into the LHC and get them to circulate around the 27 km ring - an important milestone in commissioning the machine. In the days and weeks that follow, engineers will fine tune the accelerator and commission the four detectors. Do not expect particle collisions, or amazing new scientific discoveries on the first day of commissioning.

The LHC will initially operate at low energy and ramp up to full collision energy of 14 TeV next year. Keep watching this space for the latest progress.

Is it Dangerous?

No. See 'Is the LHC safe?' for more information.
